Work Commitment Clarification for WAC General Membership

The following revisions to the Membership Work Commitment (Policy #01-1) were approved by the Executive Board on December 19, 2007, and reviewed by the full Parents’ Board on January 8, 2008:

Each parent/guardian of members of the Williamsburg Aquatic Club will be required to perform four (4) work sessions during the period of one year (Sept-Aug).  A “work session” is defined as a minimum period of 4 hours of service to the club.  (Families with two parents thus work eight (8) work sessions over the course of the fiscal year.)

1.  To satisfy one work session requirement a parent/guardian may volunteer for one of the following:

a.       Serve on assigned Bingo team

b.      Work one AM or PM session at a WAC-hosted meet (excluding timing).

c.       Train towards certification as a USA Swimming-certified official (Stroke & Turn, CTS, Timing Judge, Recorder, Starter, or Referee) at any meet.

d.      Participate in any other Board-approved service opportunity (ex: fund-raising, Bubble maintenance) for the minimum of 4 hours.

 2.  Several volunteer positions require an annual commitment due to the type of position and/or required training.  The following positions will receive credit for the annual work requirement (4 work sessions).

 a.       Serve on the Parents’ Board in one of the following positions for one year:  President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Officials Chair, Fund-Raising Chair, and Volunteer Coordinator.

b.      Serve as a member of a Bingo Core Team for one year.  There are six Core Teams, six members on each team.

c.       Serve as Meet Director for all WAC-hosted swim meets in the fiscal year.

d.      Head up the annual spring Auction.

e.       Serve as Bubble Maintenance Chair.

f.       Serve as a USA Swimming-certified official at any sanctioned meet.

 3.  Failure to satisfy a work commitment will be assessed a “work fee” of $100 for each work session not completed. All assessed work fees must be paid prior to the next session’s start; any member with unpaid work fees will remain ineligible to swim until such fees are paid.

 4.  Working for two consecutive years as Bingo Manager will release that parent/guardian from any further requisite work commitments for as long as that member is associated with the Club, with the exception of timing at meets.
